The Camden County Office of Emergency Management has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in response to a severe winter storm that affected the region on Sunday. The EOC will coordinate resources and direct responses as needed across the county.
“The EOC functions as our nerve center throughout the storm, and it will be where we will allocate assets wherever they may be needed across Camden County,” said Commissioner Jonathan Young, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Safety. “We remain in constant communication with our state and local partners to ensure that our residents are safe throughout the duration of this storm.”
Camden County’s Department of Public Works and Parks Department are working during the storm to keep roads open and clear debris such as downed trees. More than 100 pieces of equipment are ready at the public works complex in Lindenwold for use during hazardous conditions. Crews will be sent to 12 winter maintenance districts as necessary, salting and plowing 1,200 lane miles of roadway based on need.
Commissioner Young shared several recommendations for residents preparing for the storm:
– Keep bottled water and non-perishable food available.
– Charge electronic devices fully before the storm.
– Dress in layers if going outside, covering exposed skin.
– Assemble an emergency kit with essentials including water, food, flashlights, a battery-powered radio, first-aid supplies, toiletries, medications, and other items.
– Allow a small trickle of water from faucets to prevent frozen pipes; insulate exposed pipes if possible.
– Keep pets indoors when possible with access to clean drinking water.
– Ensure carbon monoxide detectors work properly; do not use gasoline-powered generators or heating devices indoors.
