The Camden County Office of Emergency Management has issued a Code Blue Advisory for the area due to forecasted low temperatures, according to a statement released on December 5. The advisory will be in effect from Saturday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 10 at 7:00 a.m., with expected temperatures ranging between 17 and 31 degrees Fahrenheit.

A Code Blue is declared when the National Weather Service predicts that temperatures will drop to 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, or if the wind chill reaches zero degrees or below for two hours or more.

“As temperatures fall to dangerously low levels, it is critical that our residents have access to a safe place to stay warm,” said Commissioner Jonathan Young, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Safety. “We urge everyone to check in on vulnerable neighbors, ensure heating systems are working properly, and bring pets indoors.”

When such advisories are announced, municipalities are required to activate their response plans for vulnerable populations such as homeless individuals. The Camden County Office of Emergency Management works with local governments throughout the county so they have necessary resources available during severe weather events. Each municipality has designated locations where people can seek shelter from cold conditions.

Those needing shelter should contact their local municipality for information about warming centers. A complete list of warming centers in Camden County is available at www.camdencounty.com/service/health-human-services/warming-centers/. Residents who need help after regular hours can call 2-1-1 for assistance.
