The Camden County Office of Emergency Management has issued a Code Blue Advisory for the county, starting Tuesday, January 27 at 7:00 a.m. and lasting until Monday, February 1 at 7:00 a.m. The advisory is in response to forecasts from the National Weather Service predicting temperatures below freezing throughout this period.
A Code Blue Advisory is declared when temperatures are expected to reach 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, or when wind chills drop to zero degrees Fahrenheit or below for two hours or more. During these advisories, municipalities with vulnerable populations are required to activate their Code Blue response plans to provide shelter and resources for those in need.
“As temperatures fall to dangerously low levels, it is critical that our residents have access to a safe place to stay warm,” said Commissioner Jonathan Young, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Safety. “We urge everyone to check in on vulnerable neighbors, ensure heating systems are working properly, and bring pets indoors.”
The Camden County Office of Emergency Management works with each municipality within the county to coordinate resources during severe weather events. Each municipality identifies locations where people can seek shelter from the cold.
Residents are advised to take precautions as temperatures drop. These include dressing in layers with moisture-wicking materials for insulation and dryness; using space heaters safely by keeping them away from flammable objects and unplugging them when not in use; ensuring smoke and carbon monoxide detectors function properly; bringing pets indoors if possible; and preparing vehicles for winter conditions by checking equipment and packing emergency kits.
Individuals seeking shelter should contact their local municipality or visit www.camdencounty.com/service/health-human-services/warming-centers/ for a list of warming centers. After-hours assistance is available by calling 2-1-1.
Camden County operates through a seven-member Board of Commissioners who oversee legislative and executive functions across its 37 municipalities. The county provides services such as public safety, health support, parks maintenance, infrastructure improvements, education initiatives, workforce development programs, and community partnerships aimed at supporting over 500,000 residents according to its official website. Camden County also maintains facilities like parks and libraries while working with local partners on various community programs.
