Crews from the Camden County Department of Public Works are preparing to treat 1,200 lane miles of county roads as freezing rain is forecasted to begin around 5 p.m. and continue through Saturday morning. The department will work overnight to ensure roads remain passable for residents and commuters.
Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works, stated: “With the freezing rain in the forecast, we are expecting slippery roadways throughout the county. Our crews have been called in to work overnight to ensure that our roadways are treated ahead of the storm. Please be extremely cautious if you will be traveling on the roads tonight. There is always the possibility of black ice, especially after the temperatures fall overnight. Please slow down, be alert for other drivers, and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.”
The Department’s Lindenwold complex has more than 100 pieces of snow removal equipment ready for deployment. Personnel will be sent out as needed across 12 winter maintenance districts within Camden County to salt and plow affected areas.
Residents are advised that a coating of ice is expected, particularly from midnight through sunrise, with a slight chance of scattered snow during this weather system.
