Camden County public works crews are responding to a winter storm that has brought snow and freezing temperatures to the South Jersey region. The Department of Public Works is focused on keeping the county’s 1,200 lane miles of roads clear for residents and commuters.
“Our crews have been working throughout the night and into this morning to ensure that our county roads are passable for residents and commuters,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Please be cautious if you have to travel today and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.”
Snowfall is expected to diminish by mid-morning Sunday, but temperatures will remain below freezing. This increases the risk of ice forming on wet or slushy surfaces, which could persist for several days on untreated areas.
The public works facility in Lindenwold is equipped with over 100 pieces of snow removal equipment. Crews are dispatched as needed across 12 maintenance districts within Camden County, following a plan that targets only zones requiring attention.
Residents experiencing power outages due to the storm are advised to contact their utility providers directly so restoration can be coordinated efficiently. PSE&G customers can report outages by texting OUT to 4PSEG (47734), online at https://nj.pseg.com/outageandgasleaks, or by calling 1-800-436-PSEG (7734). Atlantic City Electric customers may text OUT to 20661, report online at https://secure.atlanticcityelectric.com/powerOutages, or call 1-800-833-7476. South Jersey Gas issues should be reported at 1-888-766-9900 or through www.southjerseygas.com.
Officials urge residents not to use 9-1-1 except for emergencies. Any problems observed on county roads should be reported via the Camden County Department of Public Works’ 24-hour hotline at (856) 566-2980.
