Tuition for New Jersey residents attending Rowan University rose by 4% during the 2022-23 academic year, as revealed in the most recent report, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Residents of New Jersey paid $14,952 to attend the public university this year, an increase of $576 from the $14,376 charged in the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident students were charged $24,345 for the 2022-23 school year, which is 62.8% higher than the in-state rate and reflects a 4% increase from $23,408 in the previous year.

Approximately 94% of Rowan University’s undergraduate students are New Jersey residents, while about 5% come from other states and 1% are international students.

Data indicates that 93% of full-time undergraduates who enrolled in the 2022-23 academic year received some form of financial aid. A total of 2,196 students were awarded grants or scholarships amounting to $26.3 million, and 1,379 students obtained student loans exceeding $12.7 million.

Across all undergraduate students, 11,106 individuals received grants or scholarships totaling $114.4 million. Additionally, 6,749 students borrowed $44.5 million in federal student loans.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
