Mr. NORCROSS. Madam Speaker, Gwendolyn A. Faison was a Clinton, North Carolina native, but has called Camden home for most of her life. A loving mother and grandmother, Faison dedicated her life to her family, city and her country.
Mayor Gwendolyn A. Faison retired with 27 years devoted to public service. Faison was first elected to the Camden City Council in 1983. Two years later she became a member of the Camden County Board of Commissioners, and in 1997 she would become the first female African-
American Camden City Council President.
Mayor Faison's commitment to serving her city and country did not stop there. She would be elected as the first female African-American Mayor of Camden, New Jersey in the December of 2000. Her term began on July 1, 2001. She won reelection in 2005 and served until 2010.
