Gloucester Township Police Traffic Safety Unit receives reports of vehicles failing to stop for School Buses with the red lights activated.
Do not pass or approach a school bus with flashing red lights . State law requires that motorists stop at least 25 feet away if traveling on a two-lane road, or on a multi-lane highway where lanes are only separated by lines, or on a privately maintained road.
Our Gloucester Township Police Patrol and School Resource Officers periodically and randomly follow our buses on their way to school and their way home to help ensure our students are safe. Distracted driving may result in passing a school bus with it's red lights on could place our children in harm's way. Having the officer follow the bus also provides an extra layer of security.
Our officers will also occasionally stop at bus stops to interact with the students to further enhance the relationship between those students and our officers. It is all part of our Gloucester Township Police Community Relations efforts to enhance the relationship with our community that we proudly serve.
