The spotted lantern fly sucks nutrients from plants, and is threatening the country’s grape, orchard and logging industries. To help control the spread, Gloucester County Public Works has been diligently treating for spotted lantern flies and has treated over 240 acres and is approaching the 20 mile mark in roadway miles treated. Our program includes the treatment of open public spaces, such as County and Municipal Parks, as well as roadside treatments of affected areas. We have been performing surveillance of the lantern fly population throughout the entire County. This surveillance helps our treatment team identify the locations where area wide roadside treatments will be performed. We hope these efforts will have an effect on the population as well as provide relief to our residents.
